As wildfires around the capital Madrid got out of control, the Spanish government declared a state of emergency. The Spanish Ministry of the Interior said that the Autonomous Community of Madrid and the province of Avila have declared a state of emergency due to the fires. Madrid Community President Isabel Díaz Ayus asked the central government to take over all fire extinguishing tasks. Thousands of people in the region had previously been forced to evacuate. Díaz Ayuso said, “Tomorrow's weather conditions are expected to be very poor, and it is necessary to strengthen national and international support for fighting fires.”
