Thai government spokeswoman Lalida Perisviwatana said on Friday that Japan's Mitsubishi Motors plans to invest 16 billion baht in Thailand by 2030 to help transform the energy of the local automobile industry. The Thai government said in a statement that this additional investment will focus on R&D and manufacturing of technologies related to electric vehicles. The statement mentioned that Mitsubishi is studying Thailand as a production base to start production and export pickup trucks and electric versions of the Pajero sports utility vehicle. As the second-largest economy in Southeast Asia, Thailand has gathered a number of leading car companies, including Toyota, Honda, and China's BYD.
