Novartis recently announced that the US Food and Drug Administration has granted routine approval for ipcopam hydrochloride capsules to slow the decline in renal function in adult patients with primary immunoglobulin A nephropathy who are at risk of disease progression. Ipcopam hydrochloride capsules are a first-of-its-kind complement inhibitor. It previously obtained accelerated approval from the FDA in August 2024 to reduce proteinuria in patients with primary IgAN. This approval was completed under a priority review qualification granted by the FDA.
