Then-Minister of Defense Sadio Camara was killed in the attack. On the 18th of this month, the two groups jointly attacked a convoy of Malian government forces, killing more than 50 people. US sources said that Sebastian Gorka, a senior official in the US National Security Council's anti-terrorism department, advocated sending the US military to crack down on “pro-Islam and Muslim” organizations, but there are opposition within the US government decision-making level.
