The joint statement of the China-ASEAN Foreign Ministers on dealing with the impact of the evolving situation in the Middle East on the region and strengthening regional energy cooperation: reaffirming respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of all countries in accordance with international law, including the United Nations Charter; and maintaining maritime safety and freedom of navigation and overflight in straits of international navigation in accordance with international law, including the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea, relevant International Maritime Organization instruments, and relevant ICAO standards and recommended measures. In view of this, we call for the safe, smooth and continuous transit of ships and aircraft in international navigation straits in accordance with the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea, and for all parties to ensure the safety of ships and crew in accordance with the International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea.
