Due to the attack on Saudi oil tankers in the Red Sea and the further escalation of military conflict in the Middle East, international crude oil futures prices rose sharply in early trading on the 23rd, and the September contract price of London Brent crude oil futures broke through $100 per barrel. As of around 9:00 a.m. EST on the 23rd, the price of light crude oil futures for September delivery on the New York Mercantile Exchange once rose to 91.43 US dollars per barrel, and the price of London Brent crude oil futures for September delivery once reached 100.08 US dollars per barrel, all up more than 5%. According to British sources, this is the first time since May that Brent crude oil futures have broken through $100 per barrel. The attack on the Red Sea tanker has heightened market concerns about a further tightening of global crude oil supply, which may once again push up global inflationary pressure.
