The Hong Kong Finance Bureau and the Malaysian Securities Commission sign a memorandum of understanding to strengthen cross-border regulatory cooperation

Zhitong Finance App learned that on July 23, the Hong Kong Accounting and Financial Reporting Authority and the Malaysian Securities Regulatory Commission signed a memorandum of understanding in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia to formally establish a strategic partnership aimed at strengthening cross-border regulatory cooperation between Hong Kong and Malaysia on audit supervision and financial reporting compliance.

The Memorandum of Understanding provides a framework for the parties to provide advice, information exchange and assistance on auditor supervision and issuer financial reporting compliance, including auditor registration or accreditation, inspection, investigation, inquiry, enforcement, inspection, and case referral.

Chairman Sun Deke Kei of the Financial Services Bureau said that the memorandum of understanding reflects the joint priorities of the Financial Services Administration and the Malaysian Securities Regulatory Commission in strengthening regulatory cooperation, maintaining market integrity, and supporting the healthy development of the capital markets of the two places. Through closer cooperation in the future, the quality of financial reporting and auditing can be further enhanced, while increasing the confidence of investors and other stakeholders.

Chairman of the Malaysian Securities Regulatory Commission Dato' Mohammed Faiz said that the Malaysian capital market blueprint 2026-2030 aims to achieve stronger regional connectivity and cross-border investment. The Memorandum of Understanding signed by the Malaysian Securities Regulatory Commission and the Department of Finance will promote steady cross-border cooperation, which is essential for maintaining the trust and resilience of the capital market.
