The Sino-Chilean RMB Cross-border Investment and Financing Promotion Conference, jointly organized by the Bank of China and Cross-border Interbank Payment and Clearing Co., Ltd., was held on the 22nd in Santiago, the capital of Chile. More than 100 guests from the financial, political and business circles of China and Chile attended. Participants believed that the continued expansion and opening up of China's financial market will contribute more financial strength to the high-quality development of Sino-Chilean economic and trade cooperation. Niu Qingbao, China's ambassador to Chile, said in his speech that deepening financial connectivity and expanding the use of RMB in bilateral trade and investment is not only a practical choice for enterprises of the two countries to reduce costs and take risks, but also an inevitable requirement for Sino-Chilean cooperation to move deeper. He hopes that financial cooperation will become a new engine for upgrading the overall strategic partnership between China and Chile. Chilean Financial Market Commission member Beltran Drummon said in an interview with Xinhua News Agency reporters that Chile and China have close economic and trade cooperation, and the continuous deepening of financial cooperation between the two countries is an inevitable trend. Bilateral financial and trade exchanges are expected to increase the local currency settlement ratio, benefiting the vast number of import and export enterprises and ordinary people. At the promotion conference, representatives of the Chinese and Chilean business community discussed the opening up of the Chinese market to the outside world and investment opportunities, and exchanged views on topics such as improving the RMB product system and expanding bilateral financial cooperation. In 2015, the People's Bank of China and the Central Bank of Chile signed a bilateral renminbi/Chilean peso exchange agreement, which was renewed in 2021, providing liquidity guarantees for bilateral trade and investment, and creating a stable financial environment for the use of RMB in Chile and Latin America.
