The China-ASEAN Foreign Ministers' Meeting was held in Manila, Philippines on July 22. Wang Yi, member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Foreign Minister, was co-chaired by Foreign Minister Mohammed of Malaysia, the country coordinating China-ASEAN relations. Wang Yi said that this year marks the 5th anniversary of the establishment of the comprehensive strategic partnership between China and ASEAN. Under the joint strategic leadership of the two leaders, China-ASEAN cooperation has borne fruit, benefiting more than 2 billion people from both sides. Wang Yi also explained China's position of principle on the South China Sea issue, saying that the South China Sea is our common home. Currently, we are facing an important time window to reach the “Code of Conduct in the South China Sea.” We must seize the opportunity, eliminate interference, and strive to achieve our goals. All parties highly praised the fruitful results achieved in the five years since the establishment of the ASEAN-China Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, and supported the Chinese concept of building a common destiny of mankind and the four major global initiatives. All parties look forward to the early conclusion of the “Code of Conduct in the South China Sea” within the year, jointly maintaining peace and stability in the South China Sea, and making the ASEAN-China relationship a stable force and a benchmark for dialogue partners in maintaining peaceful development in the region.
