SpaceX (SPCX.US) is rumored to drastically expand the Texas data center layout or build a large-scale AI computing power base

The Zhitong Finance App learned that according to media reports quoting people familiar with the matter, SpaceX (SPCX.US) is exploring a significant expansion of its data center layout in Texas, USA, including at least one large data center, to further expand the AI computing power infrastructure.

The report said the move will further expand the geographical coverage of SpaceX's data center. Currently, the company's main data center is located at the Colossus campus in Memphis, Tennessee. Among them, Colossus 1 was put into operation in July 2024, and construction took about four months; construction of Colossus 2 began in March 2025.

People familiar with the matter revealed that SpaceX has examined several potential sites in Texas and discussed various expansion plans, including building multiple new data centers and transforming existing warehouses to build AI computing power facilities.

In addition to the Texas expansion plan, SpaceX has now begun construction of a third data center in Memphis. The report said that in 2025, the company acquired a warehouse with an area of about 810,000 square feet in Mississippi. In addition, SpaceX has also sent some data center employees to Florida to carry out related work.

Notably, the AI server manufacturer Ultra Micro Computer (SMCI.US) revealed on Tuesday that the company's on-hand orders have reached a record high, with a total of more than 60 billion US dollars in new orders. Ultramicrocomputer CEO Charles Liang said in June this year that the company is cooperating with SpaceX to build another 1 gigawatt (GW) AI data center, but did not disclose the specific location.

As of now, SpaceX has not responded to media requests for comment on these reports.
