EU Commission Issues Statement of Grounds to JD.com Over Ceconomy Deal

08:38 AM EDT, 07/22/2026 (MT Newswires) -- The European Commission issued a statement of grounds to JD.com as part of its ongoing probe into the proposed acquisition of German consumer electronics retailer Ceconomy (CEC.F) under the European Union's Foreign Subsidies Regulation. Following an in-depth investigation launched in May, the commission said Wednesday it has concerns that the China-based retailer may have received foreign subsidies through preferential financing, tax incentives and grants from entities potentially linked to the Chinese government, which may improve the merged entity's competitive position and harm the internal market. The statement of grounds informs the company in writing of the commission's specific objections and offers the possibility for companies to offer commitments. The commission has until Oct. 2 to issue its review.
