Senegalese President Faye took office as rotating chairman of the Economic Community of West African States summit on the 19th for a term of one year. The 69th ECOWAS summit was held in Freetown to discuss topics such as regional integration, the security situation, institutional reform and financial sustainability. Faye called for strengthening anti-terrorism, resource coordination, and financial autonomy. The meeting appointed Bilame Diop as Chairman of the ECOWAS Commission for a four-year term. ECOWAS was founded in 1975 to promote development and cooperation among member countries in various fields. It currently has 12 member countries.
