The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps of Iran issued a statement on the 18th saying that the two tankers exploded and caused a fire while passing through a minefield in the southern part of the Strait of Hormuz. The statement stressed that due to recent US military action, the Strait of Hormuz has been “completely closed”. Until the US stops its military operations against Iraq, the strait cannot transport oil and gas, and ships should avoid entering the mined area. The statement did not explain the nationalities, casualties and losses of the two tankers.
