Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent helped develop the proposal. The proposal would create an independent AI regulator reporting to the US Securities and Exchange Commission, with a model similar to the Financial Industry Supervisory Authority. The people, who requested anonymity, said the plan is currently being reviewed by White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles.
