The International Monetary Fund warned on July 16, local time, that given the “challenging” outlook for the UK budget, Andy Burnham, who is expected to become Prime Minister of the United Kingdom on July 20, is unable to increase public spending; any funding for energy bills will need to be offset by savings in other areas. The IIMF said that the measures taken by the British government to deal with the energy shock caused by the Iran conflict should remain “precisely targeted, temporary, and budget-neutral.”
