South Korea's media watchdog said on Thursday that it is considering imposing social media restrictions on children aged 14 and under in light of growing concerns about excessive social media use. Kim Jong-chul, chairman of the Korea Media and Communications Commission, pointed out that excessive use of social media by young people is a global problem. He said, “We are reviewing a plan in stages to ban children under 14 from registering for social media accounts; at the same time, limit the access of 14 to 19 year olds to interface designs and algorithm recommendations that can easily induce them to become addicted to platforms.”
