Cost Basis Corrections

If you believe your Cost Basis differs from what is expected after a trade:

Webull Canada calculates its cost basis on a money weighted basis, based on an average cost of all trades placed throughout the day, which is then calculated with the total cost of all shares purchased, including the acquisition costs like commissions and fees, divided by the total number of shares owned. This means that the commission paid is also factored in the average price per share of the position. This is in line with how your cost basis will be reported for tax purposes.

For example:

- You buy stock XYZ three times throughout the day, in the same quantity, selling it prior to buying it again.

- You bought the stock first at $5, then at $7.5, and finally at $10.

- Despite you selling your position each time, your reported cost basis will be $7.5, as this is the average of your buys throughout the day.

When you transfer assets from another brokerage:

If you transfer in assets from another brokerage to Webull and have an incorrect Cost Basis, or no cost basis at all, please reach out to our Help Centre or via email at support@webull.ca, and attach the latest statement provided by your brokerage where you transferred the assets from, so that we can correct the cost basis.
