The proposed price increase is subject to approval by the Postal Administration. The Commission is a federal agency that oversees the US Postal Service's rates and mail services. The US Postal Service said in a written statement: “The General Post Office is using all available tools, including available regulatory pricing powers, to ensure that we can continue to fulfill our universal service obligations and serve the American people.”
