Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy has hailed President Donald Trump after authorities in Canada moved to certify all General Dynamics Corp-backed (NYSE:GD) Gulfstream jets.
In a post on the social media platform X on Tuesday, Duffy shared a Bloomberg report stating that all Gulfstream jets had received certifications from Canada. "This is the Art of the Deal in real time," Duffy said, hailing Trump's "negotiating skills," which led to the authorities approving certifications for "AMERICAN-MADE jets."
"This is a HUGE win for U.S. manufacturing," Duffy said, adding that Trump was the kind of "America first" President the country needed.
An aircraft certification indicates that the jet has passed the rigorous testing procedures and examinations conducted by the transportation regulator of a country and is safe for flight operations.
The news comes as the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Administrator Bryan Bedford had earlier shared that Transport Canada, the country's transportation regulator, was expected to certify Gulfstream aircraft, which had been "delayed for years" by the country.
Trump had earlier issued trade-related threats to Canada, suggesting that he would block a key bridge connecting the Canadian province of Ontario to Michigan. Trump had suggested that the U.S. own at least "one half" of the bridge.
The President had also earlier revoked certification of all Canadian-made aircraft in the U.S., including the Global Express jet made by Bombardier (OTC:BDRBF), slamming the country for "wrongfully, illegally, and steadfastly" refusing to certify Gulfstream's line of aircraft.
