According to South Korea's “East Asia Daily” quoting unnamed industry officials, South Korea's Minister of Industry, Trade and Resources Kim Jung-kwan recently met with battery manufacturer executives and hinted that following the reform of the petrochemical industry, the battery industry may need structural adjustments. Kim Jung-kwan urges all executives to seriously consider whether the current “Big Three pattern” can continue. The three major battery manufacturers in Korea are LG New Energy, SK On, and Samsung SDI. Business people attending the conference explained that Kim Jung-kwan's remarks actually meant that at least one battery manufacturer might be forced to withdraw from the market. According to industry estimates, in December 2025, a total of 28 trillion won worth of orders were cancelled or cut in South Korea by local battery manufacturers.
