Bitcoin rose after the US captured Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro during a military operation over the weekend. Swissquote Bank analyst Ipek Ozkardeskaya said in a report that the cryptocurrency has been rising since the news broke because some estimates suggest that Venezuela has large shadow reserves of over 600,000 bitcoins. She stated that if these assets are confiscated by the US due to drug terrorism charges or held as strategic reserves, the supply of Bitcoin could be affected. Bitcoin rose 1.4% to $92,534, hitting a four-week high of $93,221 overnight, according to data from the London Stock Exchange Group.
