According to a Reuters report on the 2nd, an Air India pilot was found to be “affected by alcohol” before flying a flight from Vancouver, Canada to New Delhi, India last month, and then was urgently replaced. The Canadian government requested Air India to provide relevant investigation results and corrective measures by the 26th of this month. According to Air India's statement, before the flight in question was about to take off from Vancouver on December 23, 2025, the pilot was discovered attempting to “drink drive”, causing the flight to be delayed, and then operated by a replacement pilot. Reuters quoted a person familiar with the matter as reporting that the Canadian police performed two breath alcohol tests on the pilot at Vancouver International Airport, and the results showed that he was “unfit to fly.” According to Canadian regulations, pilots are not allowed to fly an airplane for 12 hours after drinking alcoholic beverages. The person familiar with the matter said that Canada's Transport Department official Agit Umen sent a letter to Air India defining the incident as a “serious incident,” and stated that the relevant authorities may take corresponding enforcement measures. India Airlines must provide Canada with the investigation results of the incident and specific measures to prevent the incident from happening again by the 26th of this month. Transport Canada did not comment on these reports. Air India, on the other hand, said that it maintains a “zero tolerance policy” for any violation of rules and regulations, and that the pilots involved have been grounded for investigation.
