According to a source familiar with the matter, the Canadian Transportation Supervisory Authority has requested Air India to investigate the incident where a pilot allegedly flew while drunk and failed both alcohol breath tests. The person familiar with the matter said that the pilot was first asked to leave the flight crew, then Canadian police tested him for alcohol at Vancouver International Airport. He added that in a letter to Air India, Transport Canada characterized the incident as a “serious incident,” and the relevant authorities may take enforcement action. Transport Canada has yet to comment. Air India confirmed in a statement that the December 23 flight from Vancouver to Delhi was temporarily delayed before take-off, and the airline then deployed replacement pilots to fly the flight. The statement stated, “The pilot involved has been suspended from his flight duties during the investigation. Air India has a 'zero tolerance' attitude towards any violation of relevant rules and regulations.” “Before the investigation results are released, once it is determined that there has been a violation, the company will take strict disciplinary action against those involved in accordance with the relevant policies.”
