UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Turk issued a statement on December 31, expressing indignation over Israel's suspension of the activities of many aid agencies in Gaza. Turk pointed out that this is the latest case of Israel's illegal restrictions on access to humanitarian aid. Previously, Israel also banned the activities of UNRWA and attacked Israeli and Palestinian NGOs. Additionally, the United Nations and other humanitarian agencies are facing broader access issues. Turk urged all countries, particularly those with influence, to take urgent measures and insisted that Israel immediately allow unhindered access to aid into Gaza. This arbitrary suspension has worsened the already unbearable situation of the people of Gaza. Turk reminded the Israeli authorities that they have an obligation under international law to ensure the supply of the daily necessities of life for the people of Gaza, including permitting and facilitating humanitarian relief.
