On December 29, the world's first 10,000-ton offshore new energy bulk carrier “Weiqiao Ludong 1” made its maiden voyage in Binzhou, Shandong, marking a landmark breakthrough in the development and application of offshore new energy vessels in China. The ship was developed and designed by the Green Smart River-Sea Direct Ship and Cruise Yacht Research Center of Wuhan University of Technology. According to reports, Wuhan University of Technology, as the R&D and design unit for this ship, adheres to the design concepts of energy efficiency, environmental protection, economy, and efficiency, and has tailored technical solutions for the “Weiqiao Green 1” ship suitable for the river and sea routes. The ship uses a wide-flat, direct river-sea, and lithium battery+fuel dual-engine drive mode, which can achieve zero-carbon operation in the emission control zone. At the same time, it is equipped with an AUT-0 auxiliary driving system to build an intelligent operation system with unattended, full-time monitoring, and assisted decision-making, and linked to a shore-based control center through 5G+ satellite communication. According to estimates, the “Weiqiao Ludong 1” ship has reduced carbon emissions by nearly 10,000 tons per year. Currently, it has driven the construction of 26 ships of the same type, filling the gap in R&D and industrial application of offshore electric cargo ships in China.
