According to a statement from the US Department of Justice, Disney will pay a $10 million civil fine to settle its alleged violation of the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act relating to YouTube content. This privacy law prohibits operators from collecting or using personal information from children under 13 without parental consent. The US government alleges in a lawsuit filed with the Central District Court of California that Disney did not properly indicate that the content of its YouTube videos was aimed at children. “As a result, Disney and its agents target children on YouTube and unlawfully collect information about children without notice and parental consent,” the Department of Justice said. Disney is also prohibited from operating on YouTube in any way that violates this law in the future.
