On December 29, local time, the UN Security Council passed a presidential statement reaffirming its firm commitment to maintaining the sovereignty, territorial integrity and political independence of Bosnia and Herzegovina within its internationally recognized borders. The statement reviewed the process of initializing the General Framework Agreement for Peace in Bosnia and Herzegovina in Dayton in 1995 and formally signed in Paris in the same year. The Security Council notes that Bosnia and Herzegovina consists of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Republika Srpska, and Brcko District as defined in the Dayton Peace Agreement. It emphasizes that safeguarding the rights of Bosniaks, Croats, and Serbs as the main people, as well as other nationalities and all citizens, maintaining the country's multi-ethnic character is central to the stability and democratic future of Bosnia and Herzegovina. The statement emphasized that regional cooperation and good-neighbourly relations are key pillars for achieving lasting peace and prosperity in the Western Balkans region, and the Security Council welcomed the continued efforts of countries in the region to promote dialogue, enhance mutual trust and strengthen economic cooperation.
