The UK's new drone management regulations will officially come into effect on January 1, 2026. For drones that weigh more than 100 grams and are equipped with cameras when flying outdoors, operators must first pass a theoretical test to obtain pilot qualifications. The UK Civil Aviation Authority expects about 500,000 people to be affected by the new regulations. Previously, the UK only required drone operators of 250 grams or more to apply for pilot qualifications; the new regulations will cover the vast majority of civilian consumer-grade drones. Flying without a license is against the law and is punishable by fines and even jail time.
