According to comprehensive Japanese media reports, recently, data released by Japan's Ministry of Health, Labor, and Welfare shows that in fiscal year 2024, there were 3,770 confirmed cases of abuse of people with disabilities nationwide, the highest number since statistics were available. There were 2,518 disabled people who were abused by family members and others, and 3 died as a result of abuse. Of those who have been abused, 47.6% have mental disabilities and 43% have intellectual disabilities. Regarding specific acts of abuse, physical abuse such as beating and kicking is the most common, followed by psychological abuse such as abuse.
