Today, the “Huangyan Island Coral Reef Ecological Survey Report” was released. The “Report” investigated and assessed the state of the Huangyan Island coral reef ecosystem based on methods such as ship navigation, diving surveys, satellite aerial remote sensing, and in-situ observation, combined with historical data analysis. According to the “Report”, the coral reef ecosystem on Huangyan Island is generally in good condition. There are 13 reef-building coral families, 36 genera, and 135 species, and rich species of coral reef fish and large benthic invertebrates. A total of 94 species of national grade 1 and 2 protected wild animals were discovered during the investigation, including tortoises, green turtles, red carp, snails, and tabby babies. After the establishment of the Huangyan Island National Nature Reserve in China, implementing strict conservation management and necessary ecological restoration will help maintain and enhance the diversity, stability and sustainability of the Huangyan Island coral reef ecosystem.
