On December 27, the UN Secretary General's Office of the Special Envoy for Yemen issued a statement stating that it is closely monitoring developments in Yemen's Hadramaut and Mahra provinces. The special envoy reiterated the UN Secretary General's appeal to all parties to exercise restraint, promote the de-escalation of the situation and resolve differences through dialogue, and urged all parties concerned to avoid any actions that might further complicate the situation. At the same time, the statement stressed the importance of continuing regional mediation efforts, and stated that it will continue to maintain contacts with all parties in Yemen and relevant parties in the region to support the easing of tension and push forward progress towards a comprehensive and inclusive political settlement of the Yemeni conflict.
