On December 25, Xu Dong, spokesman for the Foreign Affairs Committee of the National People's Congress, delivered a statement in response to the US signing the “2026 National Defense Authorization Act” into law. The full text is as follows: Recently, the “2026 Defense Authorization Act” passed by the US Congress was signed into law, which contains negative content relating to China. The bill continues its consistent tone of containing China, portraying the “Chinese threat,” grossly interfering in China's internal affairs, and harming China's core interests. We express our strong dissatisfaction and firm opposition to this. We hope that the US side will objectively and rationally view China's development and Sino-US relations, move in the opposite direction with China, and jointly implement the important consensus reached at the first meeting between China and the US dollar in Busan. We strongly urge the US side to abandon the zero-sum mentality and ideological bias, and not implement the negative provisions relating to China in the above law. If the US persists in its actions, China will take strong measures in accordance with the law to resolutely defend the country's sovereignty, security and development interests.
