PesoRama Inc. (CVE:PESO) Stocks Shoot Up 26% But Its P/S Still Looks Reasonable

Simply Wall St·12/23/2025 11:07:17
Listen to the news

The PesoRama Inc. (CVE:PESO) share price has done very well over the last month, posting an excellent gain of 26%. The last month tops off a massive increase of 200% in the last year.

After such a large jump in price, given close to half the companies operating in Canada's Specialty Retail industry have price-to-sales ratios (or "P/S") below 1.5x, you may consider PesoRama as a stock to potentially avoid with its 2x P/S ratio. Nonetheless, we'd need to dig a little deeper to determine if there is a rational basis for the elevated P/S.

How Has PesoRama Performed Recently?

PesoRama has been doing a good job lately as it's been growing revenue at a solid pace. It might be that many expect the respectable revenue performance to beat most other companies over the coming period, which has increased investors’ willingness to pay up for the stock. If not, then existing shareholders may be a little nervous about the viability of the share price.

What Are Revenue Growth Metrics Telling Us About The High P/S?

PesoRama's P/S ratio would be typical for a company that's expected to deliver solid growth, and importantly, perform better than the industry.

Retrospectively, the last year delivered a decent 9.5% gain to the company's revenues. Pleasingly, revenue has also lifted 103% in aggregate from three years ago, partly thanks to the last 12 months of growth. Therefore, it's fair to say the revenue growth recently has been superb for the company.

When compared to the industry's one-year growth forecast of 17%, the most recent medium-term revenue trajectory is noticeably more alluring

With this in consideration, it's not hard to understand why PesoRama's P/S is high relative to its industry peers. Presumably shareholders aren't keen to offload something they believe will continue to outmanoeuvre the wider industry.

The Key Takeaway

PesoRama's P/S is on the rise since its shares have risen strongly. It's argued the price-to-sales ratio is an inferior measure of value within certain industries, but it can be a powerful business sentiment indicator.

As we suspected, our examination of PesoRama revealed its three-year revenue trends are contributing to its high P/S, given they look better than current industry expectations. In the eyes of shareholders, the probability of a continued growth trajectory is great enough to prevent the P/S from pulling back. If recent medium-term revenue trends continue, it's hard to see the share price falling strongly in the near future under these circumstances.
