From December 18 to 23, 2025, Deng Xijun, the Chinese Foreign Ministry's special envoy for Asian affairs, visited Cambodia and Thailand to meet separately in Cambodia with Prime Minister Hong Manai, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Brasokoun, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense Di Siha, and Army Commander Wang Jiajun Mao Sopan. In Thailand, he met with Prime Minister Anutin, Minister of Defense Natapon, Supreme Commander of the Thai Army, and Deputy Foreign Minister Ashley. Special Envoy Deng said that China is paying close attention to the current border situation between Cambodia and Thailand, and is deeply saddened by the casualties and displacements on both sides as a result of the clashes, and expressed sincere condolences. The top priority is to end the cease-fire as soon as possible, resume dialogue, and resolve border disputes by peaceful means. China supports ASEAN's mediation efforts, supports the ASEAN observer mission in playing an important role in cease-fire monitoring, and is willing to once again create conditions and provide a platform for dialogue and negotiations between the two sides. We hope that Cambodia and Thailand will move in the opposite direction and work to restore mutual trust and re-establish border peace. Both Cambodia and Thailand thanked the Chinese side for always persuading peace and promoting negotiations in a manner acceptable to all parties, and reiterated their commitment to peace, looked forward to a sustainable cease-fire, and were willing to maintain close communication with China to promote cooling and easing the situation and restore peace and stability in the Cambodian-Thai border region as soon as possible.
