Japan's Finance Minister Katayama Satsuki said that “we can let go” and take bold action against exchange rate fluctuations that are not in line with fundamentals. Faced with the trend of yen weakening even after the central bank raised interest rates, Katayama Satsuki issued the harshest warning to speculators so far. “The trend is clearly not fundamental; it is speculative,” she said in an interview on Monday, referring to the sharp depreciation of the yen last Friday. “In response to this trend, we have made it clear that we will take bold action, as stated in the joint statement of the Japanese and US finance ministers.”
