MERCOSUR member states and associated countries issued a joint statement on the 20th to support Argentina's exercise of sovereignty over the Malvinas Islands. The 67th MERCOSUR summit was held on the same day in the southern Brazilian city of Foz do Iguaçu. President Millet of Argentina, President Lula of Brazil, President Orsi of Uruguay, President Peña of Paraguay, Foreign Minister Alamayo of Bolivia, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Chile Van Claveren, and participants from many countries jointly issued the “Special Statement on the Question of the Malvinas Islands”.
