On the same day, the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon held a ceremony in Blida in southeastern Lebanon near the “Blue Line” of the temporary border between Lebanon and Israel to hand over a plot of land that had already been cleared of minefields to the Lebanese Armed Forces. This is the first time that UNIFIL has handed over land cleared from minefields since the Lebanese-Israeli cease-fire agreement came into effect last year. The demining process began in August this year and was completed at the beginning of this month. UNIFIL discovered 393 mines on nearly 2,000 square metres of land and destroyed them on site in coordination with the Lebanese Armed Forces.
