07:30 AM EST, 12/17/2025 (MT Newswires) -- The European Commission plans to widen the scope of its Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism policy to tighten any loopholes that could allow companies to sidestep the rules. Under the proposed measures, the carbon border tax will be expanded to include specific downstream products with a high content of steel and aluminum, such as washing machines and industrial radiators, according to a Wednesday release. The policy, which is part of the European Union's efforts to become climate neutral by 2050, will be implemented beginning Jan. 1, 2028.
