Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand reiterated on December 16 that Canada plans to establish a consulate in Nuuk, the capital of Greenland, to strengthen Canada's presence in the Arctic region. Anand had planned to visit Greenland in November to open a Canadian consulate in Nuuk, but was unable to do so due to weather. According to a Reuters report on the 16th of this month, Anand said in an interview with the news agency that Arctic affairs are a priority in Canada's foreign policy. In response to US President Trump's intention to annex Greenland, Anand said that she has always emphasized “the importance of the Arctic region and Canada's sovereignty position” to the Nordic countries, and called on NATO to work with Canada to strengthen its presence in the Arctic region.
