South Korea's Daejeon city officials said on the 16th that a new road management system based on artificial intelligence is being tested locally. The system can monitor dangerous winter road conditions such as “black ice” road surfaces in real time and issue corresponding reminders to reduce traffic risks. According to the “Korea Commercial Telecom” report on the 16th, the project received support from the Ministry of Science, Technology and ICT of South Korea. Staff installed ultrasonic sensors on 6 high-risk road sections, including tunnel entrances, bridges, sharp bends, and Baiyinshan Road, where accidents are frequent in winter. The system uses artificial intelligence to analyze the signals sent by sensors to determine whether the road surface is dry, slippery, or frozen. Unlike traditional monitoring systems, which are generally unable to detect transparent black ice on road surfaces, ultrasonic sensors can operate stably even under fog, blizzard, or heavy rain conditions.
