The Defense Security Cooperation Agency, an agency under the US Department of Defense, issued a press release on December 16 saying that the US State Department has approved an arms sale worth about 100 million US dollars to Japan to provide technical support and related equipment for Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force destroyers equipped with the “Aegis” combat system. According to the press release, the Japanese government requested follow-up technical support for the purchase of the “Aegis” destroyer, including combat system maritime certification tests, testing and evaluation services, “Aegis” computer software updates, system integration and testing, etc., with an estimated total cost of 102 million US dollars. The Defense Security Cooperation Agency has submitted the required certification documents to the US Congress. The main contractor for this arms sale will be Lockheed Martin.
