02:57 AM EST, 12/16/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Equinor (EQNR.OL) said Tuesday it will challenge a penalty imposed on its refining arm, Equinor Refining Norway, by the Norwegian national investigation authority Økokrim over breach of the pollution control act. The energy group's Executive Vice President of Legal & Compliance, Siv Helen Rygh Torstensen, said the emissions and discharges were reported by the company on its own, and it implemented required measures to improve compliance. The penalty includes a 220 million Norwegian kroner fine and a 500 million kroner confiscation claim. Torstensen noted that Økokrim did not specify what the "punishable negligence" comprised and said the company will " clarify the case in court."
