Berkshire Hathaway is hiring Michael O'Sullivan as its first general counsel, a newly created position as part of the changes brought about by Warren Buffett's transfer of CEO power to Gregory Abell. As a veteran corporate attorney, O'Sullivan will move from Southern California to Omaha, Nebraska, and is scheduled to take office on January 1st, marking the end of the company's long reliance on Munger, Tolles & Olson as its external general counsel. This hire was seen as a “confidence booster” for the transition to the new leadership. Munger Tolles title partner Ronald Olson said it was part of an “extremely orderly transition” from Buffett to Abell.
