Japan's ruling Liberal Democratic Party held discussions with the far-right political party in the ruling coalition, the Restoration Association, on December 15 to confirm that it will gather opinions on abolishing the five types of equipment export restrictions in the “Three Principles of Defense Equipment Transfer” application guidelines in February next year, and officially submit relevant policy proposals to the government. Japan's current guidelines for the application of the “Three Principles of Defense Equipment Transfer” only allow the export of the five major types of equipment “rescue, transportation, surveillance, and mine clearance.” Once this policy is abolished, Japan will be allowed to export various types of equipment, including lethal weapons. On the same day, several Japanese peace groups held an exchange meeting to oppose lifting restrictions on the export of lethal weapons, and submitted a petition against lifting the arms export ban signed by tens of thousands of people to the Diet.
