On the 15th local time, Hungarian Foreign Minister Sialdo said on social media that once the EU passes a plan to ban Russian energy imports, Hungary will join Slovakia in filing a lawsuit with the European Court of Justice. Hungary and Slovakia are highly dependent on Russian energy. Earlier, the European Commission, the European Council, and the European Parliament reached a political agreement on a draft legislation, which plans to gradually ban EU member states from importing Russian gas through pipelines from September 2027. The European Commission also proposed banning imports of Russian crude oil from the end of 2027. The agreement still needs to be formally approved by member states and the European Parliament before it can enter into force.
