The Walt Disney Company agreed to invest $1 billion in OpenAI and license iconic characters such as Mickey Mouse and Cinderella to the OpenAI artificial intelligence short video platform. According to a statement released by Disney on Thursday, as part of this three-year licensing agreement, Sora will be allowed to use Disney, Marvel, Pixar, and Star Wars animation and character library materials to generate short videos according to user instructions, which can be viewed and shared by fans. The agreement does not include the use of any actor portraits or voices. Disney will be an important OpenAI customer, using its artificial intelligence tools to create new products and experiences, and deploy ChatGPT for employees. Disney CEO Bob Egg said in a statement: “The rapid development of artificial intelligence is an important moment for our industry. Through this partnership with OpenAI, we will responsibly expand the reach of our storytelling with generative AI while respecting and protecting creators and their works.”
