According to a US official, the Trump administration negotiation team led by Rick Switzer, Deputy Representative of the United States Trade Representative Office, plans to go to India next week to continue negotiations on a trade agreement. The official requested anonymity and did not disclose further details of the delegation's visit. The administration led by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been hoping to reach a preliminary agreement with the Trump administration to reduce 50% tariffs on Indian goods, which hinder the development of key sectors of the country's economy. India's Minister of Commerce Rajesh Agrawal said at an industry event last week: “We are very optimistic and hopeful that we can find some solutions within this year.
