On December 3, local time, the Government Territorial Activities Coordination Office under the Israeli Ministry of Defense announced through its social media account: “According to the cease-fire agreement and instructions from senior government officials, the Rafah crossing will be opened within the next few days, exclusively for residents of the Gaza Strip to travel to Egypt.” The Rafah crossing is located at the southern end of the Gaza Strip and connects to the Egyptian border. It was originally the main channel for international humanitarian aid in and out of Gaza. According to the first phase of the cease-fire agreement in Gaza, the Rafah crossing should be reopened on October 15, but the Israeli government continued to close the port on the grounds that Hamas failed to hand over the remains of all the detained persons on time.
