On the morning of December 3, the Taiwan Affairs Office held a regular press conference. Reporter: Lai Qingde recently publicly opposed the Kuomintang's plan to “amend the law” to guarantee the “right to participate in politics”. Taiwan's administrative agency head Zhuo Rongtai said, “The 'Nationality Law Amendment' involves the issue of dual allegiance.” Any comments on this? Taiwan Affairs Office Spokesman Zhang Han: Mainland spouses are family members and loved ones of Taiwanese compatriots. They are builders and contributors to Taiwanese society. They should be recognized and respected, and their legitimate rights and interests, including participating in and deliberating on political affairs, should be protected. Due to the nature of “Taiwan independence,” the DPP administration blatantly sells the “two-state theory”, arbitrarily deprives Lu Pai's legitimate rights and interests, suppresses and bullies the Lu Pai community, and continuously challenges the historical and legal facts that both sides of the Strait belong to the same China. We strongly condemn this. I am telling the DPP authorities that any bad act or trick that undermines the peace and stability of the Taiwan Strait and harms the interests of compatriots on both sides of the Strait will surely reap its own bad consequences. We will never give up on “Taiwan independence” accomplices who persecute mainland spouses; they will be held to account and severely punished according to law.
