The Last 12 Months Of Insider Transactions At Koppers Holdings

In fact, the recent sale by Chairman Leroy Ball was not their only sale of Koppers Holdings shares this year. They previously made an even bigger sale of -US$146k worth of shares at a price of US$38.35 per share. While insider selling is a negative, to us, it is more negative if the shares are sold at a lower price. The good news is that this large sale was at well above current price of US$29.85. So it may not shed much light on insider confidence at current levels.

Does Koppers Holdings Boast High Insider Ownership?

I like to look at how many shares insiders own in a company, to help inform my view of how aligned they are with insiders. We usually like to see fairly high levels of insider ownership. Insiders own 5.2% of Koppers Holdings shares, worth about US$30m. This level of insider ownership is good but just short of being particularly stand-out. It certainly does suggest a reasonable degree of alignment.

So What Does This Data Suggest About Koppers Holdings Insiders?

An insider sold Koppers Holdings shares recently, but they didn't buy any. And there weren't any purchases to give us comfort, over the last year. While insiders do own shares, they don't own a heap, and they have been selling. We'd practice some caution before buying!
